Autumn walks
A walk through the Woodland and ‘The Secret Swamp’ is an enjoyable experience whatever the time of year. The transition into autumn can be seen throughout the woodland. Enjoy the changing colours and watch out for unique fungi on the floor of the woods.
Birdwatching
Join Castle Espie’s team of experts as they take a closer look at the variety of birds across the site. Keep your eyes peeled too for wigeon, black-tailed godwits and redshanks, which are all regular visitors at this time of year. If you’re really lucky you may even hear a few whooper swans swooping overhead!
The Big Brent Weekend
Celebrate the return of the light-bellied brent geese to Strangford from Saturday 8th to Sunday 9th October 2022.
Every year in September and October around 25,000 light-bellied brent geese make the gruelling 3,000 mile journey with their young from Arctic Canada to Strangford Lough.
During the two days experience the incredible journey of the light-bellied brent through photography workshops, guide talks in the hide, arts and craft workshops.

WWT Castle Espie Gallery
The Gallery at WWT Castle Espie showcases fresh talent and brings new work to the fore - housing many exhibitions throughout the year from artists, photographers, crafts and sculpture. It’s Ireland’s only environmental art-space, open daily from 10am.
Refreshing views at the Kingfisher Kitchen
Sit back, relax and enjoy beautiful views of Strangford Lough, the Co Down countryside as well as a window onto the world of the magnificent wildlife collection at WWT Castle Espie. All whilst enjoying delicious food and drinks.
