As a market trader in St George’s Market, Belfast, I always have to visit a market in whatever city I go to.
In London I try to visit Spitalfields Market in the east end of the city and gateway to places like trendy Shoreditch and Brick Lane. There’s always something new to inspire my creative juices or somewhere new and cool to eat.
Lamb Street
Recently I was invited to try out Dos Mas Tacos in the relatively new Lamb Street area for a burrito and fries. Dos Mas is run by twin brothers Rupert & Charlie Avery. They source local British ingredients, and offer a diverse range of flavours to enrich the entire Mexican street food experience in their various sites across London.
Sitting in a window seat I watched the world go by and Dos Mas customers come and go. One customer thanked the team when she was leaving saying it was the best she’d ever had! What a compliment to get… and I can confirm it was great.
Lamb Street is currently home to seven street food businesses with flavours from around the world including Thai, Pizza, Tacos and burgers.
Market Street
On the other side of the traditional traders market is Market Street, with a new craft beer paradise Kill The Cat Beer. the ‘cool’ coffee shops and some beautiful boutique shops including Astrid & Miyu, MALIN+GOETZ, On, RAINS and more!
Matcha is the hot thing on Market Street at the minute with Jenki Matcha Bar attracting customers who want to take photos of their drinks and selfies. Japanese monks have been drinking it for years to keep them hyper focused through hours of meditation and Jenki sat it’s a ‘clean green caffeine that mellowed us out whilst keeping our brains sharp’.
The market is always busy and it’s great to see it thriving and expanding and still attracting all generations out to enjoy a mix of foodie experiences, great retail and much more.
