From incredible gothic architecture, enchanting Christmas markets, bustling high streets and vibrant shopping centres, Glasgow has it all.
And, thanks to Stena Line, enjoying a winter’s tale in Scotland’s biggest city has never been easier.
Crossing the Irish Sea in just two hours and 15 minutes, passengers can relax, unwind and enjoy the unrivalled style and comfort of Stena Superfast.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year and, the second you set foot onboard, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into Christmas and to celebrate day-trippers are also entitled to 20% off all treatments in the Nordic Spa.
On arrival in Cairnryan, there’ll be no stopping the cavalry as guests travel, via coach, to Glasgow and, when it’s time to wish Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night, the coach will return you to their ferry.
It really couldn’t be simpler; all that is left for you to do is to plan how to spend your day. To help, Stena Line has compiled a list of festive frolics you can enjoy in Glasgow.
- Embrace the holiday spirit at two locations in the heart of Glasgow! St Enoch Square’s winter hub will run from November 9 to December 29 while George Square will be transformed from November 23 – January 5. Both locations will feature a variety of amusements and array of delicious street food but don’t miss the ice rink and big wheel at George’s Square.
- You’ve left the car at home so why not celebrate the season in style and enjoy a festive afternoon tea at the Blythswood Square Hotel or, for something a little more shabby chic, check out the offering at The Hidden Lane Tearoom on Argyle Street.
- One of the best parts of Twixmas is enjoying the ultimate leftover sandwich but why wait? Coffee shops and cafes across Glasgow are offering up delicious festive sambos already. Make sure to head to Argyle Street and try Piece’s festive sandwich filled with, ham, turkey, festive slaw, roasted carrots and parsnips, cranberry sauce and gravy mayo on white bloomer!
- Santa has been busy carefully planning his route all year but throughout November and December he will be a regular at the St Enoch Centre. Santa’s elves will be on hand to welcome families and help little ones write their letters before they meet the main man himself and find out if they’ve made this year’s nice list.
- After a day of shopping and sightseeing why not find a cosy corner to enjoy a festive tipple? For a pub full of charm and character, classic cocktails, craft beers and a large range of spirits, look no further than one of Glasgow’s oldest pubs – Old Toll Bar which is celebrating its 150th Christmas this year.
- Discover Glasgow City Centre’s vibrant shopping – from the pedestrianised Buchanan Street featuring all the big names you’d expect, the stunning selection of jewellers and diamond merchants in Argyll Arcade and the Instagram-worthy Christmas decorations of Royal Exchange Square, you’ll find all you want in Glasgow!
- One of the most famous sites in Glasgow, this stunning 12th century gothic cathedral is not to be missed at Christmas. Deep inside the Cathedral’s crypt you’ll find the tomb of Saint Mungo, the patron saint of the city and the man credited with founding Glasgow in the sixth century.
- ‘Tis the season to be jolly and what better way to evoke the magic and mirth of Christmas than to gaze upon the city’s spectacular decorations. The traditional lights at Glasgow City Chambers are a must see but make sure to also check out Royal Exchange Square and Princes Square after dark too.
