A night at The Cumberland, London

A night at The Cumberland, London

Flying in from Belfast to Heathrow, and getting on the Elizabeth Line to Bond Street, the Cumberland Hotel is only 10 minutes walk away. It couldn’t be any easier to get to at the end of Oxford Street at Marble Arch and Hyde Park.

The Cumberland Hotel has been on the go for 90 years, and has hosted some very famous guests including Madonna and Lady Gaga.

Walking into the large lobby you’re immediately struck by the energy in the room and with 900 bedrooms, a restaurant and a bar, it’s always buzzing with people coming and going. Checking in was as efficient as it could be for such a large place, but it’s not long before you’re shown to your room.

There are different levels of rooms from Classic, Gold, Executive and Suite. Executive and Suite both have access to a backstage ViP room with complimentary food and drinks. Ask at check-in about upgrade options, it might be worth it for you.

The Cumberland is a rock n roll hotel, so it’s fitting that our room had a Fender guitar ready and waiting and a record player with a small selection of albums. It looks like guests had taken a shine to the Thriller album as it wasn’t in its sleeve, so we went for a bit of Eminem, followed by some Dolly Parton!

We had a quick turnaround to check out the room before heading to their restaurant, SOUND Cafe, for dinner. Open plan to the lobby, the restaurant continues the music theme with a stage and live music every night.

The Americana-inspired food menu includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, alongside a popular Bottomless Brunch and a twist on the classic Afternoon Tea, both available every day. Dishes include a range of burgers including the London Double-Decker Cheeseburger, a Fried Chicken Burger and Surf & Turf Burger. Other classics include Baby Back Ribs,Chicken Mac ‘n’ Cheese and a range of starters, sharers and salads.

SOUND Bar is a 360 degrees bar, with colourful lighting and decor, is a popular spot to enjoy a drink, a cocktail or a mocktail.

You can book a SOUND Cocktail Masterclass which includes a welcome drink, two cocktails and a two-course meal for just £45.00 per person.

Also housed within the SOUND area is the SOUND Sports Bar, a space surrounded with nine 4K flat screens to showcase the best of live sports while enjoying stone baked pizza and some American classics.

We love the location for its convenience to Heathrow, its closeness to Hyde Park where we enjoyed a stroll to Chelsea. But its location at the end of Oxford Street where you can shop and experience the buzz of London is just the best!

It’s also handy enough to get on the Central Line at Marble Arch underground station and head to Tottenham Court Road station then walk south for 8 minutes for a night out in the West End or Soho.

It’s worth also giving a shout out to their partnership with Back To The Future and the Delorean sitting in reception. As you know you can often see one driving around Belfast City centre, this was a lovely reminder of how it became world famous thanks to that legendary 80’s movie!

If you’re looking for something central, buzzing, good food, and a bit rock n roll then you’ll love The Cumberland.
