The Snapper by Roddy Doyle has arrived at The Lyric Theatre, Belfast. Running from 17-20 September. The Bardic Theatre production is sold out in the Lyric as has the whole tour!
This is a colourful show in both the 80’s clothing and the characters. We loved all the 80’s tunes!
Expect a lot of feck and eejits in this chaotic celebration of an Irish family and an unexpected pregnancy. As the play progresses it slowly reveals itself to the audience. An audience who laughed along with the language and jokes. What is it about saying feck and feckin eejit that gets a laugh every time?
The Rabbitte family react to everything with humour, including the announcement of their daughter Sharon’s unexpected pregnancy. We eventually discover who the father of the baby is, and their lives are turned upside down.
You’ve probably read the book and seen the movie, but isn’t it always great to experience live theatre.
One issue a number of theatre goers experienced on the night was the volume. With thick accents and no mic’s, it wasn’t always easy to hear or keep up with the craic on stage.
It’s great to see this is a sold out run at the Lyric and after The Ferryman last year, hopefully we’ll see Bardic Theatre back in Belfast again soon.
