Christmas at the Cathedral once again proved why it has been a Belfast tradition for 17 years. Filling the awe-inspiring surroundings of St Anne’s Cathedral with warmth, music and seasonal magic. Presented by Peter Corry Productions, this year’s concert was a beautifully balanced celebration of Christmas past and present, delivered with heart, polish and genuine festive spirit.
From the moment the first notes by the BSPA Voices Choir rang out beneath the cathedral’s soaring arches, the atmosphere was unmistakably special. Peter Corry, a reassuring and charismatic presence at the centre of the evening, guided the audience through a carefully curated programme that blended traditional carols with modern Christmas favourites; a formula that continues to delight year after year.
Joining Corry on stage were two outstanding international vocalists who now call this part of the world home. Dana Masters brought a rich, soulful warmth to the performance, her voice effortlessly filling the cathedral. Known for her work with Van Morrison, Masters’ blend of jazz, funk and R&B added depth and emotion to the evening, delivering moments that were both uplifting and deeply moving. A stunning performance of Fairytale of New York by Dana sounded spectacular under the festive lights in the Cathedral
Kalon Rae offered a striking contrast, showcasing his truly unique vocal range and versatility. With a background that spans opera to contemporary pop, Rae’s performances were powerful and theatrical, particularly during a memorable rendition of Last Christmas, which drew warm applause from the audience.
The BSPA Voices Choir were superb throughout, their youthful energy and precision bringing a sense of joy and grandeur to the concert, while the Arco String Quartet and accompanying musicians added elegance and richness to the overall sound. Together, the performers created a seamless and immersive musical experience perfectly suited to the cathedral’s stunning acoustics.
More than just a concert, Christmas at the Cathedral felt like a shared seasonal ritual; an opportunity to pause, reflect and celebrate the joy of Christmas through music. Whether a long-time attendee or a first-time visitor, audiences were treated to an evening that captured the true spirit of the season.
As the final notes faded and the cathedral glowed with festive light, one thing was clear: Christmas at the Cathedral remains a highlight of Belfast’s Christmas calendar, and this year’s performance was a fitting and memorable way to begin the festive season.
