In recent years as Belfast became a UNESCO City of Music, the history of music in the area is being rediscovered.
A new show at the Grand Opera House tells the forgotten story of a Comber blues legend, Ottilie Patterson.
From her childhood and throughout her career this production tells the fascinating story of that girl from Comber then Newtownards as she builds a reputation of being the best blues singer on this side of the Atlantic and goes on to tour USA. Often referred to as the godmother of British blues, Ottilie’s story is a tough watch but also a joy to discover her.
Played phenomenally well by Jolene O’Hara, the story is insightful, engaging and a rollercoaster journey of the highs and lows of Ottilie’s music career, of an artist who is finally getting recognition for her achievements on the global scene.
If you can get a ticket for this short run, go and see it!
