Kiefer Sutherland Belfast Review

Kiefer Sutherland’s first Belfast show on Wednesday night carried a surprisingly intimate atmosphere.

Originally scheduled for Empire Music Hall before moving to Limelight, the switched setting ultimately suited both Kiefer and his band perfectly. What could have easily felt like a celebrity side project instead came across as deeply personal, honest and refreshingly grounded.

Blending Americana, country rock and storytelling throughout the evening, Sutherland moved seamlessly between songs from his upcoming album Grey and reflections on life, change and finding something you truly love later in life. Between tracks, he spoke candidly with the crowd, creating the kind of atmosphere that made the venue feel far smaller than it already was.

Musically, the night carried a darker, road worn energy. Highlights included a stirring rendition of Can’t You See by The Marshall Tucker Band and a stripped back, brooding take on In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins, both reimagined through a distinctly Americana lens that suited his voice surprisingly well.

What stood out most, however, was the sincerity behind it all. There was no sense of performance for performance’s sake. Instead, the evening felt like watching someone genuinely enjoying the craft of live music and the connection that comes with it.

For a city he admitted he had never visited before, Belfast gave him a warm first welcome and by the end of the night, it felt very much returned.
