This year’s Sea Bangor festival will be transformed to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Running over Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June, Sea Bangor Celebrates the Platinum Jubilee will take place on and around Eisenhower Pier and is proudly presented by Ards and North Down Borough Council.
This year’s festival will invite visitors to take a step back in time and immerse themselves in each of the seven colourful decades from Her Majesty’s historic reign. Cast your minds back and visualise these wonderful eras, which will be recaptured for your enjoyment over the two days of fun and festivities.
Music is such a powerful way to evoke memories. Prepare to be transported back to past times, as we celebrate sounds from each of the eras from The Queen’s reign. Our fabulous ‘Platinum Palace’ Ballroom, curated by our partners at Open House, is where you can revisit your favourite moves. Whether you preferred the Jitterbug or the Twist, we invite you to dress up for the occasion, showcase your favourite era and hit the dancefloor!
The ‘Jubilee Jukebox’ will transform the pier into a journey through our living rooms, from the 1950s to the 2020s. This outstanding interactive theatre production asks you to select a track from a collection of vinyls, CDs, tapes and downloads. Watch as the living Jukebox of musicians and actors plays the tunes and brings the memorabilia of that decade to life. So, whether you remember Buntys from the ‘60s or GameBoys from the ’90s, there will be a track for you to pick and relive.
For the car enthusiasts, McKee Clock Arena will come alive, with an impressive display of vehicles from the last seventy years. What a wonderful way to relive bygone eras and feel the memories flooding back, as you take a walk around the display and regale loved ones with your stories.
Our royal passion for food will be celebrated in style, as our talented partners from SERC cook up a storm, recreating some past favourites such as Coronation Chicken and the perfect Prawn Cocktail.
Celebrity chef Jean Christophe-Novelli MBE, from Novelli at City Quays will join Sea Bangor over the two days, answering your cookery questions, presenting Platinum Pudding Competition prizes and hosting The Big Jubilee Lunch.
Relax and soak up the atmosphere, while you indulge in some delicious food and drink from the many stalls along the pier. Add in the vintage beach scene with beach huts and funfair rides, plus a covered bar and it becomes clear, that Sea Bangor Celebrates the Platinum Jubilee will be an event to remember.
