There’s something different about watching a piece of theatre before it’s finished.
On 18 April, Incubate Festival returns to the MAC with a one day programme of new work still taking shape. Instead of polished productions, audiences are invited to experience 30 minute excerpts from emerging artists across Northern Ireland, each one at a different stage of development.
Some feel nearly complete. Others are still finding their form. That uncertainty is part of what makes the festival compelling.
Across the day, themes move from personal storytelling and identity to more experimental and abstract work. It’s varied, sometimes uneven, but always rooted in the idea that theatre is something that evolves in real time.
Alongside the performances, a symposium led by Tinderbox Theatre Company opens up the process further, offering space to reflect on how new work is made.
In a city known for strong theatre voices, Incubate feels like a look at what comes next. Not finished. Not certain. But full of possibility.
