Belfast Prepares for Fleadh as 1,000 Volunteers Sign Up
Belfast’s summer calendar is beginning to take shape, with over 1,000 volunteers now signed up to support this year’s Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann .
Taking place from 2–9 August, the world’s largest celebration of Irish music and culture will come to Belfast for the first time, with more than 800,000 visitors expected across the week. The scale is significant. Streets will fill with traditional music, competitions, sessions and performances, transforming the city centre into a live stage.
The volunteer milestone is one of the clearest signs yet that preparations are well underway. Recruited from across Belfast and further afield, volunteers will act as ambassadors, support competitions and help guide visitors through what is expected to be one of the largest cultural events the city has hosted.
Behind the scenes, engagement with businesses and city organisations is also ramping up, as plans take shape around visitor flow, traffic management and hospitality demand. For many in the city, the Fleadh represents not just a cultural moment but a significant tourism opportunity.
While August still feels some distance away, the numbers tell their own story. With thousands already stepping forward to help deliver the event, Belfast is beginning to prepare for a week that will place traditional music at the centre of the city — and bring unprecedented footfall with it.
Further details on volunteering and business briefings are available through official Fleadh channels.
