There’s something comforting about having a few small plans in the diary, even if they’re simple.
From a theatre night to a cosy midweek coffee, a quiet gallery wander and a Cathedral Quarter stroll, these are the little rituals that make you feel alive again. Think of this as your gentle guide to the week ahead: no pressure, just a few good ideas worth leaving the house for.
Here’s what we’d do.
1) A new play (or theatre night)
Make it a “book it now” week : check what’s on at Lyric Theatre, MAC, Grand Opera House, Accidental Theatre, Belvoir Studio Theatre, Sanctuary Theatre and pick one date.
2) A midweek cosy café moment
Try a proper slow sit-in coffee somewhere cosy (bonus points for a window seat + tray bake).
Perfect for a reset.
3) One gallery hour (no pressure)
Pop into Ulster Museum, The Mac, Golden Thread Gallery or Belfast Exposed for a quiet wander.
Even 30 minutes counts.
4) Cathedral Quarter after-dark
Head into town early one evening for a stroll or catch up with friends.
The Cathedral Quarter comes into its own after dark, when the city feels more vibrant and the streets glow.
5) A new menu / early dinner
Pick one place you’ve been meaning to try and go early (before the weekend rush).
Think: easy, unfussy, midweek treat.
6) St George’s Market weekend ritual
Friday, Saturday or Sunday for a Belfast Bap, coffee, browse, something local to take home; like a Belfast Times coaster for the craic.
Always a good idea.
7) A Sunday walk to close the week
Keep it simple: Ormeau Park, Botanic Gardens, Divis & the Black Mountain, Cave Hill, the Waterworks, Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park or a coastal stroll if you’re out and about.
Pick one thing, book it in, and let the rest follow.
