Back at the Grand Opera House, Give My Head Peace Live settles in like an old friend you haven’t seen in a year but immediately reconnect with ease. The formula is familiar, but that is very much the point. This is a show that knows its audience and plays to it with confidence. Even when they push boundaries, a knowing “too soon” comment shows they understand the room. When the Nerf guns come out and the front rows and boxes get soaked, there’s a childlike sense of fun that lifts the whole night.
The humour leans into local references and close to the bone political nods, with Tim McGarry guiding the evening through a blend of brilliant stand up and ensemble scenes that rarely miss. The cast slip easily back into long established characters, their timing instinctive rather than rehearsed.
The musical interludes add another layer, playful and well judged, often drawing some of the biggest reactions.
Ma’s absence is cleverly handled, becoming part of the joke rather than leaving a gap.
Its aim isn’t to reinvent itself, but it doesn’t need to. Its strength lies in consistency, delivering a night that feels nostalgic, fun and current.

Having seen many productions i feel we have politically moved – JUst the same old thing and not a penny spent on the set – COuld producers not at least had some video featuring MA interaction – God knows how many times Jamie Bymryson was referred to i lost kind- Tim Magarry at least softened the bordome BUT his followers would have already seen a d heard this solo spot already- Ihave great admiration fkr the cast however this was a dimly lit and very under power production – It has to be time fo move on – its well past the sell by date good luck to them all
