The Simon & Garfunkel Story arrived in Belfast this week for a 3 night run. This West End hit show is a real treat for fans of one of the music world’s most loved duos. You are taken down memory lane with hit after hit from their early beginnings as Tom & Jerry through to their famous New York Central Park concert, and their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
As the title of the show suggests, it is their story. It’s a story of an enduring lifelong friendship with all life’s up and downs. It’s a story of their journey, their influences, their successes and much more.
Performed by James Pattison as Paul Simon and Alex Bradshaw as Art Garunkel the show has a relaxing vibe helped by chilled and perfect harmonies. From the start the music is accompanied by footage on the screen behind them and between songs the performers tell the story of Art & Garfunkel.
Heads were moving from side to side in the audience as they relived their own memories of the 60’s and early 70’s when these beautiful songs were in the charts. I’m sure many wanted to sing along.
Of course it ended with a stunning version of Bridge Over Troubled Water from one of the best selling albums of the 70’s. Mesmerising!
Catch it at the Grand Opera House until 7th August before it heads off to continue a UK/Ireland tour.
