Review: Pippin

Review: Pippin

Following its previous successes with The ProducersLes Miserables and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Belfast’s leading performing arts school, Belfast School of Performing Arts (BSPA), returned to the MAC with its Senior summer project for 2025 – Pippin.

“Pippin” tells the story of a young prince trying to be extraordinary in an ordinary world. But this is no ordinary world, it’s BSPA’s world. Directed by BSPA’S Artistic Director Peter Corry MBE, this musical is joyful and full of talented performers.

Standing out for us were the Fosse inspired choreography moments, so in sync and so Fosse! What’s not to love.

Pippin searches for happiness and fulfilment and never quite finds it. Maybe he has found it at one point but the love of a family unit just isn’t enough, or is it?

This was a very colourful and high energy musical by a superb group of 45 talented young people in The Mac. They were deservedly cheered on by the supportive audience of family and friends.

Pippin is a hidden gem in musical theatre and it was a pleasure to see it revived in Belfast.
