Review: Now That’s What I Call A Musical

Review: Now That’s What I Call A Musical

It’s new, it’s directed by Craig Revel Horwood, it stars Carol Decker of T’Pau and it’s a night of nostalgia for those of us who experienced the 80’s and a fun night for lovers of 80’s music.

Sitting in the stalls we were tapping our feet and nodding our heads and feeling the urge to get up and bust some 80’s moves. I might be biased (it was my teenage years) but 80’s music is just something special. Apart from it being great music, every song has a memory attached to it.

The Now Musical stars Nina Wadia and Melissa Jacques as two estranged friends at a school reunion in 2009.

Who doesn’t dread a reunion and all the insecurities it brings up, the what ifs, the no shows, the lost friendships, the reminders of young love and the life you’ve lived in between. The Now Musical captures it all.

Carol Decker’s arrival on stage is brilliant, the humour around it is superb, a goddess bathed in white light, coming back to save the situation. Brilliant.

The musical is about dreams, realities, relationships, friendships and life in general. You’ll go thinking it’s going to be about the music and get pulled into the stories of their lives.

Brilliant.
