Victoria Sq Sister Season

How Victoria Square Is Marking International Women’s Day This March

International Women’s Day is approaching, and across Belfast, different spaces are finding their own ways to reflect, discuss and celebrate women’s lives and experiences.

This March, Victoria Square is hosting a series of talks, workshops and public conversations under its Sister Season programme, running from 7 to 22 March. The programme centres on storytelling, wellbeing and community, with proceeds from selected events supporting Women’s Aid.

At the heart of the programme is a focus on local women. A flagship Sister Stories event will bring together women from across Northern Ireland to share personal experiences shaped by advocacy, health, caring roles, business and community work. Alongside this, a number of panel discussions and open conversations will explore themes such as modern expectations, confidence and mental load.

The programme also includes creative and wellness sessions led by local practitioners, ranging from art and craft workshops to yoga and movement classes. Some events are ticketed, while others are designed to be more informal and accessible, taking place within the public space of the city centre.

While International Women’s Day can often feel abstract or symbolic, moments like these offer a chance to slow the conversation down and focus on lived experience, local voices and practical support. In Belfast, that grounding often matters more than spectacle.

Further details are available through Victoria Square’s own channels.
