AT THE TABLE | A Murder Mystery at Six by Nico Belfast
It’s been more than six years since I last visited Six by Nico Belfast, and returning to its newly refurbished Waring Street restaurant, I wasn’t expecting to find myself investigating a murder over dinner.
But that’s exactly what happened.
The restaurant has reopened with a fresh new look and an American Murder Mystery tasting menu that turns six courses into an unexpectedly entertaining evening of food, clues and detective work.
On arrival, we were presented with an FBI investigation file, complete with evidence, fingerprints and a mystery waiting to be solved.
And then the fun began.
Each course brought another piece of the puzzle, with additional clues arriving alongside beautifully presented food.
The staff were very much part of the storytelling, bringing the investigation to life as the evening unfolded. Rather than simply serving dinner, they became part of an experience that kept us entertained throughout.
What made it particularly enjoyable was how the investigation extended beyond our own table.
Guests were interacting with neighbouring tables, comparing theories, discussing evidence and trying to work out who was responsible.
Suddenly, a restaurant full of people who had arrived for dinner had become a room full of amateur detectives.
It was immersive, entertaining and genuinely great fun.
And importantly, the food was excellent.
The six-course tasting menu takes inspiration from American comfort-food classics, giving familiar dishes the inventive Six by Nico treatment.
The newly refurbished restaurant provides an attractive setting for the experience, with warm leather seating, contemporary artwork, atmospheric lighting and an open kitchen.
But what I’ll remember most about this visit isn’t simply the refurbishment or even the individual dishes.
It’s the way Six by Nico managed to turn an evening out into a shared experience.
Great food, a little mystery and neighbouring tables getting involved.
That’s a pretty successful night out in Belfast.
American Murder Mystery runs until 15 November 2026 at Six by Nico, Waring Street, Belfast.
